EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR YOUR CHILD

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW FOR YOUR CHILD

Dental hygiene is essential to prevent tooth decay in children and other diseases of the oral cavity. Gums and baby teeth have to be cleaned from plaque and food residues that stagnate after breast-feeding.
An absolutely incorrect habit (luckily less common than in the past), is to sweeten the pacifiers with sugar or honey and then leave them in the child’s mouth, in order to calm him or keep him busy. Pacifiers and baby bottles used in a wrong way are often the cause of decay or malocclusions that predispose the child to serious carious lesions when the first permanent teeth appear.
The diet after weaning should contain big quantities of vitamin C and D (such as citruses, tomatoes, dairy products, eggs) to facilitate, among other things, a correct mineralization of teeth.
The oral prevention in children must begin during pregnancy: it is essential to have a proper intake of fluoride for the expectant mother, as well as for the new-born. In fact, the effectiveness of fluoride during enamel formation is now recognized by the scientific community, because it makes the enamel more resistant to acids. The intake of fluoride during odontogenesis allows its deposition in the deeper layers of the enamel in formation, determining the formation of fluoro-hydroxyapatite crystals, instead of hydroxyapatite, which are more resistant to external aggressions, especially to acids.
